Newsletter, June 2003Just Some Quick News We are just speeding along into summer over here! The past few weekends have been filled with instructor, white-water and swift-water rescue courses! Here is a link to a "scrapbook" of images from the last few weeks. Pictures say more than words! (May be slow loading). Ongoing Tuesday and Thursday evening skills clinics - drop in! Upcoming Dates June 7 - Staff training, Olympic Outdoor Center June 8 - Women's Afternoon Paddle, Bike and Paddle, Port Angeles - sign-up now or forever hold your peace! I've heard there is some excitement revolving around this afternoon. We hope to explore Freshwater Bay and the sea cliffs - weather dependent - and then have a bite to eat. Ajourn to Port Townsend for Sunday salsa! June 14 - First Annual Kayakathon, Adventuress. Also a possible intermediate white-water day. June 15 - Beginning Sea Kayaking in Port Townsend. One pool session, one day on the water. June 21 - 22 Intermediate Whitewater, Snoqualamie River June 28-29 Deception Pass, Intermediate strokes, braces and rescues followed by current work and rescue scenarios. Take kayaking to a new level. July 5th weekend - Time out, Fourth of July and Taj Mahal! July 12, 13 and 19, 20 The next beginning whitewater class through Aqua Sports and Outdoor Adventures in Redmond! July 24th - 27th or 28th - San Juan Tour - Instruction based we will all contribute to gourmet food while we navigate about the outer islands. Begins on San Juan Island. With luck we will paddle to Stewart Island and camp for two nights. We can circumnavigate Stewart and take some nice day hikes. We may also camp on Tern or Jones. I'll bring the breakfasts - pancakes with butter and real maple syrrup, mmm. Sunrise Coffee from Port Townsend... August 14 - 18 Outdoor Retailer Show, Salt Lake City American Canoe Association instructor development workshop, Deception Pass and Washington Park, near Anacortes, WA October 1 - 6 - American Canoe Association instructor development workshop and exam, Hong Kong October 17 - 19 - American Canoe Association instructor certification exam, Washington October 24 - 26 - American Canoe Association instructor development workshop , St. Augustine, Florida October 17 - 19 - American Canoe Association instructor certification exam, St. Augustine, Florida How about some teambuilding by kayak - great for those intra-office dynamics! *deposits needed to hold spaces in above courses Pool Slalom - on hold now that summer is here! Paddling Tips This is the time to practice good form while forward paddling - use that whole body from your toes to your shoulders! Shoulders rotate from ten o'clock to two o'clock...Are you rotating that torso or do you think you are rotating your torso? Maybe you are "doing the bicycle" with those arms. Lodging: As many are on a budget, recommended lodging is
the hostel, ((360) 385-0655),
which is adjacent to the building we like to use. The hostel
is $17.00 per night, add on $8.00 if you get a private room
(reserved for couples except during a slow season. Kayak Instruction Excellence (KIX)

Deposits are required for each course. If an attendee cancels
within two weeks prior to the course, we will refund all but
$50.00 kept for processing. After two weeks no refund will occur
due to scheduling of instructors, rooms and other costs associated
with logistics.
A signed liability waiver is required before each class begins.
